Penrose park was named after john penrose, born in yorkshire in 1850, was the place to be seen in it's hey-day. Includedamongst these interesting points is the old silverton cemetery located next to penrose park. There are also three cabins on site.in penrose park visitors are welcome to walk the marked historic walk, which takes two hours and covers interesting points around the area. Sporting and recreational bodies such as the barrier ranges jockey club, aviaries, a grassed oval, a playground, kitchen facilities, a large hall for hire with power, powered caravan and camping sites with amenities, silverton football club and the lawn tennis club thrived in the days of silverton.now a popular picnic spot with wood and gas barbecues, day and night-time tennis and other sports facilities. Headstones still standing there date back as early as 1883 with names such as sefton, bone, campbell, lidington, harding, parsons, brady, crossing, kestell, desmond, tremaine, tantram, roberts, mitchell, o'grady, zander, anderson, polkinghorne and spiller are found on the headstones.
